Cupboard Door Makeover

Sorry I did not post these instructions on Monday.  I have come down with the flu/cold this week.  I hear it is going around everywhere.  Not fun! So I found my pictures.  Actually my husband put them in a file and didn't tell me.  He likes to organize me, and then I can't find anything.

This is the old cupboard door that I started with.  Sand it down so that the old stain is gone and you are left with just wood.

I filled in the handle holes with wood putty.  Make sure you find a wood putty that you can stain.  Fill the hole and then let it dry.  Sand it down flat.  I had to repeat this 2 times, because the first time my putty sank in the hole and left an indent.

I used a stain plus a polyurethane so I didn't have lot of steps.  Follow the instructions on the back.   I put two coats on my board.

This is what it looked like after one coat.  It was too shiny for me so after all my coats were on and dried, I sanded the edges.  I am one that likes the sanded edges look.

The final steps are:

1. Put 2 hangers on the back.  I actually used screw in hanger hooks on each side.  My door is very heavy so I wanted to make sure the hangers on the back would hold it up.

2,  Put the vinyl on. 

3. Put the hooks on the front.   I picked my hooks up at Walmart.  The screws were too long, so I bought some smaller screws at the hardware store.  I also pre drilled the holes with a drill bit.

This is a cute sign to put in any childs room. This sign is a 22x6x1 inch pine board.

America, Land of the Free Because of the Brave

This America board would look great anywhere. It is a big hit in my town, because we live next to a Navy base, and it is a big hit to all of those that love this country and love the people fighting for it.

I used a 8x24 inch board and painted it blue. I sanded the edges to give it a fun look. After the blue paint was totally dry, I placed the AMERICA vinyl lettering down first. Then I placed the Land of the Free, Because of the Brave vinyl on top of the America to give it an overlay look.

Vinyl Clock

I am really excited about the upcoming vinyl projects for Super Saturday and Girls night out. This 24 inch clock will be one of the projects this year. It is made from a table round found at your local home store. They are a great wedding, anniversary, birthday... gift. You can also add a family name or a fun quote in the middle.


How to make this clock:

Time to make it: 1 - 1 1/2 hours

Supplies you need:
24 inch wood round (or smaller)
Craft paint
Vinyl clock face
Clock parts (9-11 inch hands, high torque 12 hour motor) (I use Klockit.com)
Drill to make center hole

1. I had my husband cut me out a 24 inch circle using MDF board from Home Depot. I think it was about 1/2 thick board. He just used a little hand skill saw. You can also use a table round located in the lumber department from your local home store. It depends on where you live, but it was cheaper to have my husband cut the circle out. Drill your hole in the middle so you know where middle is.

2. You can paint the board all one color, or you can have the center of the clock lighter like mine. All I did was paint a cream circle in the middle and paint the rest of the clock brown. I used a napkin and dipped a little brown and a lot of cream to blend the colors together. Then I added a little cream paint to the brown on the outside. It actually was pretty easy. On the edges and 1 inch from the outside I painted it black to blend with the vinyl. Let it dry. Make sure your board is smooth so your vinyl is not bumpy.

3. Add the vinyl. Once your board is dry you can apply the vinyl. It comes all ready to go. Have someone help you put it on. I did it by myself but it would have been better to have someone to help me. Start on one side to apply it.

4. Add all your clock parts and you are done. :)
