Great News for Jar Lanterns

Thanks to our wonderful customers, we got some new info on Jar Lanterns.  Normally people use the Frosted Spray in a can to coat the outside of the jars.  We have found that there can be some problems with the spray.

If you handle your jars, the oils from your fingers can transfer to the jar. When you spray the jar, it looks covered but in fact, everywhere your fingers touched, the frosted spray can peel off when you apply the vinyl.  Our suggestion is to wash your jars in the dishwasher prior to using, then either wear gloves or only touch the jar from the lip of the jar.

Now we have found that you can use a different spray.  We used the Krylon Crystal Clear Flat spray, and it will gave a similar look as the frosted but is less temperamental.  We tried it putting our fingers all over the jar prior to spraying and it didn't peel off when the vinyl was applied.

We do not guarantee that this will work all of the time.  We do suggest that you use clean jars and that your hands are fairly clean also.  If you are planning to do a large number of these, please test one or two before you do them all.  By the way, the Flat spray was less expensive than the frosted!

For more information on how to do these jars, CLICK HERE.  If you wish to order these (they do come in a variety of designs), CLICK HERE.

Remember, these don't always have to be used as jar lanterns.  Try putting other things in your decorated jar - like candy or some other fun items.  These make great gifts for teachers, neighbors, grandparents, and that hard to gift boss!

Ornaments Ready Online!

Christmas is coming - Are you ready? Here is a fun craft idea that you can do with a group or the family.

Using clear bulbs (purchased at a craft store - Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Walmart, etc.), color the inside and customize them on the outside.

This sample has glitter inside (Learn how easy it is to glitter the inside) and white vinyl outside (see other designs here).

Check out our website for vinyl and more ideas. www.vinylgiftsandmore.com

More designs will be added often but if there is something that you would like and you don't see it available, just send us an email and we'll see what we can do for you.

Note:
-  I love the look of the glitter on the inside.  That part will be so easy for children to do and so much fun!
-  There is a little skill necessary for applying the vinyl but children can do it too.  You may need to use a craft knife to adjust some of the letters or parts of the design.
-  The vinyl does not adhere to some substances on the outside so do a test before you plan on a whole project.  I used a glitter spray on the outside and the vinyl would not attach to that substance.  It did work okay sprayed over the vinyl then I removed the vinyl for a kind of reverse etching.
-  Some paints (most that I have found) do not necessarily leave a smooth inside color.  I see blobs and runs and have tried several brands and techniques.  My favorite is the glitter as it seems the most user friendly. See details on how to make these on our website under Vinyl Projects.

Please let us know if you have questions.  We hope you will try this project and don't forget to get your vinyl at www.vinylgiftsandmore.com!

Last Minute Teacher Gift

Here is a fun quick gift idea. I have been busy with kids, church, school and life that I forgot that I needed to make teachers gifts for the end of the school year. I remembered years ago that I use to make these cute cans and give them away for gifts. They are great for last minute and everyone loves them. I showed my friend how to make them, and now she is going to make one for her husband on Father's day.

Supplies you need:Text Color
1. (1) can that has a pop top on top and a normal ridge on the bottom. (Dole fruit cans are the best for this. Campbell's soup cans have a pop top but they changed the bottom of their cans so they are rounded and you can use them.)

2. Safety can opener (You can find these at Walmart or Kmart) (You have to use the safety can opener because it cuts it in a way that you can glue the bottom back on.)

3. Scrap booking paper, Ribbons, any decoration you like to decorate the outside of the can.

4. Strong glue and double sided tape (the tape is for putting on the scrap book paper but you can you glue too.)

5. Fun things to fill the can. (I used chocolates and a gift card to fill mine, but you can fill it with anything. If you are making one for your husband on Father's day you can stick a tie in it.)

How to make:

1. Cut the bottom of the can off with the safety can opener. Empty the food out of the can. Clean the clean with soap and water and dry it with a towel. Take the label off the can too.

2. Decorate the outside of the can. I used scrap booking paper and stamps. You can use what ever you like.

3. Fill the can full of fun stuff

4. Glue the bottom of the can back on with strong glue. I ended up using a glue gun.

5. It is now ready to give.
